Judith Ivey, Jessica Chastain, David Strathairn to Star in Revival of The Heiress

The Heiress will be revived for the fourth time starting November 1 at the Walter Kerr Theatre with a cast that will include Judith Ivey, Jessica Chastain and David Strathairn. Previews begin October 7 and the limited run is set to end on February 10, 2013.

Chastain stars in the lead role of young woman stuck between her strict father (Strathairn) and a handsome suitor (David Stevens). Ivey will play the role of Aunt Penniman.

Chastain was recently nominated for an Academy Award for The Help while Ivey is a two-time Tony winner for Steaming and Hurlyburly.

The Heiress originally opened on September 29, 1947 with Wendy Hiller and Basil Rathbone, playing 410 performances. It was revived less than three years later for a short 16 performance run and again in 1976 with Jane Alexander and Richard Kiley, playing 23 performances.

The most successful revival opened in 1995 with Patricia Conolly, Phillip Bosco, Cherry Jones and Frances Sernhagen, playing 340 performances. The production won the Tony for Best Revival of the Play along with Best Actress for Jones, Best Featured Actress for Sternhagen and Best Direction for Gerald Gutierrez.
